Cornell University
Each year I participate in Cornell’s annual Insectapalooza event organized by the Entomology Department. Recently, I designed a hands-on activity to introduce visitors to the European Paper Wasp, Polistes dominula, which is the focal species of research. The activity focuses on the nest architecture and collective behavior of paper wasps using real nests, colorful building materials, and interactive prompts to invite visitors to think like scientists.

Cal Poly San Luis Obispo
I am passionate about improving access to science through public outreach and I am grateful to have had many opportunities in science communication such as through Cal Poly's Pier Open House events that welcome over 2,000 visitors at each annual event. Throughout my time at Cal Poly, I have taken and TA'd the Communicating Ocean Sciences to Informal Audiences (COSIA) course led by Dr. Nikki Adams to learn about best practices to develop inclusive marine science activities that engages people regardless of their age or science background.

Walt Disney World
A core part of my work at Disney involved communicating science directly to guests every day. Because our behavioral research took place in public spaces, visitors could watch us set up equipment, coordinate with animal trainers, and conduct trials alongside routine feedings and husbandry. With thousands of visitors to the aquarium each day, there were many opportunities to engage guests of all ages in conversations about marine biology, animal behavior, and the science behind aquarium care.
